An Afternoon With Chuka Umunna

Category : Uncategorized

On Friday we had the huge pleasure of meeting Chuka Umunna in Streatham, talking about Votes at 16, a Curriculum For Life, and (of course) the Careers Fair! (You may have seen us on his Twitter page…)

Our discussion ranged from PSHE in schools to the EU, and from Tuition Fees to why he became an MP. Sitting in Cafe Barcelona, we were in awe but felt like valued, knowledgeable adults ourselves- and he was 100% on board with 16 and 17 year olds being enfranchised. A Curriculum for Life was also talked about: mental health, financial planning, and politics are a huge gap in our education which Chuka is supporting us in filling! And although he might not be able to make it to our Careers Fair, we plan to work together to make it a success.

So a huge thanks to Chuka for meeting with us, and thanks to you for reading.

The Lambeth Youth Council’s Careers Fair is on Thursday March 23rd, 4-7pm at the Lillian Baylis School, Vauxhall.
